A 1 term

AI companion noun #

An AI character built for conversation rather than task completion. Where a generalist AI assistant helps you do work, an AI companion (like the 20 in Soriz) helps with ongoing parts of life — career, dating, wellness, fitness — across many sessions, with persistent memory and a defined personality.

Compare with: a chatbot (single-turn task helper), a voice assistant (Siri, Alexa), or a general chat AI like ChatGPT or Gemini. Meet all 20

C 3 terms

Character AI category #

The broader product category of conversational AI built around distinct personalities — real, fictional, or user-created. Includes apps like Soriz, Character.AI, Replika, Talkie AI, and Janitor.

Heads-up: "Character AI" (the category) is different from Character.AI (a specific product by the same name). When people say "character AI app," they usually mean this category.

Context window noun #

The amount of text an AI can consider at one time within a single conversation. Think of it as the AI's short-term working memory — everything inside the window shapes the next response.

Context windows have gotten huge (100k+ tokens) but they're still finite. Soriz pairs context windows with per-companion long-term memory so important details survive across sessions, not just within one chat.

Custom companion noun #

An AI companion you create yourself, tuned to a personality, voice, or set of expertise. On SorizPro, you can build one in three ways: from scratch, from a real person (with their consent), or by importing your old chat history so the AI learns the conversational style.

E 1 term

Emotional AI noun #

AI designed to respond to feelings and build rapport, not just answer questions. Think mental-wellness support, relationship coaching, or just a companion that sits with you when the day was a lot.

Good emotional AI is patient, non-judgmental, and knows when to step back and suggest talking to a real human. Soriz Calm is the wellness companion in the lineup, with crisis-helpline info surfaced automatically when conversations turn serious. Meet Calm

H 1 term

Hallucination noun #

When an AI generates confident-sounding information that isn't true. Even strong models can hallucinate facts, dates, or quotes.

Always verify anything that matters — medical, legal, financial — with a real expert before acting on it. Soriz companions are designed to flag uncertainty rather than bluff, but no AI is hallucination-free.

L 2 terms

LLM acronym · large language model #

The class of AI that powers conversational products like Soriz, ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. LLMs are trained on huge amounts of text and predict the next word given everything that came before. Each Soriz companion runs on top of an LLM, with personality and memory layered on.

Long-term memory noun #

An AI's ability to recall things you've shared in earlier sessions — your goals, preferences, the names of people in your life — and bring them back into future conversations.

Free tiers usually limit this; SorizPro extends memory across months. You can review or delete what a companion remembers in Settings → Memory. See SorizPro

M 1 term

Memory (AI) noun #

Everything the AI knows about you across conversations — short-term (this chat), medium-term (the last few sessions), and long-term (months of context).

On Soriz, each companion keeps its own memory: what you tell Calm stays with Calm. Ace doesn't know what you discussed with Cupid. More private, more focused, easier to manage.

P 3 terms

Parasocial AI noun #

A one-sided emotional connection between a person and an AI character that feels like a real friendship or relationship. Common with deep AI-companion use.

The healthy version supplements real relationships — like having a journal that talks back. The unhealthy version replaces them. Soriz is built for the first kind, with crisis-helpline auto-surfacing if a conversation starts going somewhere serious.

Persona noun #

The personality, voice, and stance of an AI character. Each of Soriz's 20 companions has a distinct persona — Bro is unfiltered and chaotic, Calm is gentle and patient, Ace is direct and pragmatic. Persona shapes tone, vocabulary, opinions, and what the companion will and won't do.

Prompt noun #

A message you send to an AI. Specific prompts with context get better answers. "I'm prepping for a product manager interview at a fintech startup — quiz me on system-design questions" is a better prompt than "help me prep".

With Soriz companions, you don't need prompt-engineering tricks — just talk like you would to a smart friend who already knows you. Personality and memory do the rest.

R 2 terms

RAG acronym · retrieval-augmented generation #

A technique where an AI looks up specific information — your past chat, a personal note, a database — before answering, so the response stays grounded in real facts instead of being made up.

Part of how Soriz companions remember you across sessions: when you start a new conversation with Ace, RAG pulls in what Ace already knows about your career goals before responding.

Roleplay AI noun #

An AI companion used to act out characters, scenes, or scenarios — historical figures, fictional characters, hypothetical conversations you want to rehearse.

Great for writers testing dialogue, students learning a language, or anyone prepping for a hard conversation. Soriz lets you create your own roleplay companion from scratch.

V 1 term

Voice chat noun #

Speaking to an AI out loud and getting spoken responses, instead of typing. Each Soriz companion has a distinct voice that matches their personality — Calm is gentle and slow, Bro is loud and fast.

Voice chat is rolling out for select Soriz companions on iOS and Android, with web support coming soon.
